Fever in the Morning, Fever All Through the Night

September 9, 2009

Sorry, once again my humble abode has been stricken with a bout of illness not unlike those forecast for the End of Days. After having finally kicked the juicy little bug that had been lingering in my chest cavity and spewing forth its noxious fury into my sinuses, I was feeling great on Saturday. And it's not just the college football talking.

As the weekend wore on, though, my poor daughter began to become more and more and more pink in the cheeks, which is a sure sign of the onset of a fever. At first, we thought it was just because she refused to take her pink Notre Dame jersey off (seriously, she wore it for three days straight...I was beginning to have visions of that kid in Wisconsin who refused to take off his Favre jersey for the first thirteen years of his life or whatever). Finally, on Sunday, we had to face facts and realize that she was ill. Her sickness has lasted into today. Yesterday, I spent the day at home with her, which is why I was noticeably absent round these here parts.

Then, yesterday afternoon, after I walked up to the bus stop to get the little boy, he complained about how cold it was on the bus. And then he complained about a headache. And then he had a fever that was hot enough to melt lead, which correlates to about 100.7 degrees Fahrenheit, if you're playing along at home. That also meant that he's home from school now.

We had been holding out hope that they'd both hold off for about a week before contracting the current flu plague that is riding rampant through the school systems down here, but alas, it was not to be. They're both down, and with only a week to go in the current term. There's hopes that they could be back by the end of the week, though. I'd cross my fingers, but that would make it difficult to type.

However, I'm feeling as fine as frog hair, which is a change of pace after the past couple of weeks have seen me afflicted with and succumbing to the Ick. As I understand it, we aren't the only ones currently trying to stave off the pale rider and the waves of disease he leaves in his wake. Having gone through it, I can tell you, you don't want it. Good luck avoiding the cold, virulent touch of Disease.

And, as for college football...all I'll say is this: if I ever hear another pompous, cocksucking, arrogant, shit-for-brains Ohio State douchebag say anything about Notre Dame playing Navy, I'm going to punch them in the throat.

Oh, and one other thing: I'll have your Latin college football teams on Friday. I'm having way too much fun translating them.

Should I feel guilty laughing at the wonderful word pictures you paint of the pain and suffering of your offspring? I hope not-- you're terrific.

Hope you're little ones feel better soon.

It's running rampant through SC too. I'm almost ready to wear a hazmat suit every where I go. If someone gives me that shit before the wedding, I swear to gawd I'll stab them.

I hope your kiddos feel better soon (and that you don't get round #2)

Yesterday I thought my head was going to 'splode and foresaw all manner of flowers and painkillers arriving bedside, but it was just a tease. I'm perfectly healthy today.

Will meditate during yoga tonight on behalf of the wee ones. You'll have to let me know if it helps.

:-D

I sooooo feel your pain, Mjenks. In the past month, I have been admitted to the ER three times for emergency antibiotics due to a throat infection I just can not shake.

THREE TIMES!!!

I'm seeing an ear, nose and throat specialist this afternoon where I'll most likely be told I'll be having my tonsils out. Oh joy.

Disease happens, my friend. Disease just fucking happens.

Hope everyone is well there soon!

About 90 percent of my students came to school with the same hacking cough today. Suddenly.

I've been breathing shallow breaths and breaking in to the hand sanitizer.

Good thing I always wash my hands after I visit your blog.

Frogs don't have hair, though I think the French do.

Hope your kids are all better soon. Mine had nasty flu, ended up in hospital for three days last week - poor baby - and it was all rather gruelling.

Did you ever read Stephen King's "The Stand?" This is how it all starts out. Wooooo (spooky sound)

Word Verification for my comment was "RantlyP." I think that indicates a kidney infection.

Ugh! Sam had one full (2 1/2 hour long) day at preschool before coming down with the funk. Why is it that some kids won't share anything but germs? Hope the little people feel better soon!

Oh, I hope this is over soon! And doesn't simply recycle itself.

Dear friend.
*giggle*
I am glad to hear you are feeling better. And saddened your babies have the inglorious Ick.
Tell me: what do you think of the Wolverines, baby?!

I'm pretty impressed at how you still manage to regularly write long and entertaining posts in the face of the plagues constantly sweeping your homestead!

awww. I hope the little ones feel better. I don't know if this will work for you, but my grandma often did this for us. Ginger Ale with a quarter of a lemon squeezed into it and a teaspoon of honey. I dunno why it helps so much, but it works wonders for my younger cousins too.

hope you don't get the second wave of germy-ness. Plagues are not fun.

*huggles* hope you feel better, all of you!

My kids are sick too. Max fell victim first and is still sleeping at 8:40 am when she's usually up at 7.

Elijah was next and is active but leaving a trail of snot everywhere he goes.

Rose and Olivia are attending school today and are just a little bit sniffly. I dread them all being as sick as Max. I dread getting sick myself.
I hope everyone feels better at our collective households very very soon.

Everyone here is sick. At work and at home. I've been doing my best to avoid it. Do you think ingesting antibacterial gel is a bad thing?? :-)

Do not even SAY those words; I've had a headache for three days and am tired all the time. Don't jinx me!

P.S. Hope your little ones feel better soon. :)
