I'm sure my father-in-law will now be interested in knowing that Duke is no longer the most popular college basketball team in the land. I'm sure now he'll be saying "Well, when I was in Charlotte, I always liked North Carolina..."
Here's the list as gleamed from this article:
1) North Carolina
2) Duke
3) Ohio State
4) Kentucky
5) UCLA
6) Texas
7) Georgetown
8) Indiana
8) Michigan
10) Syracuse
Contrary to what the article states, Michigan did not make it to the tournament, either.
I also switched Indiana and Michigan from the listing on the article for a couple of reasons:
a) Indiana comes before Michigan alphabetically
b) I went to Notre Dame for grad school
c) Indiana made it to the tournament this year...and last year
d) Indiana's five national championships, strong tradition and storied mystique trump Michigan's one, strong tradition of dirty boosters and time outs taken in the final game to seal the deal for North Carolina (after blatantly traveling and not getting called for it).
I was actually surprised to see Indiana make the list over Florida and Illinois and Kansas and gonzaga. I'm guessing this was done before the tournament started, otherwise Virginia Commonwealth would be on there, too.

Did you hear about Kentucky's coach running off for Minnesota?
I was surpised only in this regard: that he chose Minnesota.
I knew Tubby probably wasn't going to last another season at UK, either by his own volition or not. However, I didn't think he'd pick Minnesota over some of the other "bigger" named programs in need of coaches. I figured he'd stick around, see what opened in the south, and maybe head back down that way.
Hot rumors I've heard to replace him are Billy Donovon from Florida and Billy Gillespie at Texas A&M. Another rumor is that Billy Gillespie is dating uberhot Erin Andrews from ESPN.
Tubby Smith is our new savior!!!!! We are looking at the real possibility of double digit wins!!!!! Top five Big 10 here we come!!!!! Maybe the Gophers can be mentioned in the same sentence as the words "BigTen champs" without the typical snickering.
Finally, something to look forward to.
As I was writing my response to psistarpsi, I thought "Wow, this touches everyone in my blog universe". *shifty eyed* I think...
Tubby is a super-awesome person and you're lucky to have him at Minnesota.
I have to admit I don't know much about Gillespie. Pitino is also rumoured to be among those considered, though I doubt he will come back. In other news, Randolph Morris is playing for the Knicks now. I wonder how his brother is taking this?
I'm going to guess he's ashamed that his brother is playing for the Knicks. That's like having a sibling in the hoosgow: it's not something you want to admit to.
As for Tubby, he'd be a fine coach if he didn't coach for two schools I really don't care much for and is now at a Big Ten school. At least he's not at Iowa.
