Friday Morning Latin Lesson

November 14, 2008

Thanks to all who helped my friend out with her clothing choices. When last I spoke to her, she was planning on wearing a black miniskirt, fishnets, boots, and a tube top. Or an attractive sweater and some very nice black slacks. She does want to thank Zibbs for giving her the okay to rub her ass against his junk, should the evening turn sexy.

Now, today, let's have a little bit of learning, shall we. Today, I'm going to teach you a handy little phrase in Latin. What? It's been dead for 2000 years? This is true, but let me just add that "quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur."

I think you see my point.

Here's today's phrase:

"Te audire no possum. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure."

Pronounced: "Tay oh-deer-ay no poe-sum. Moose-uh sap-ee-en-toom fix-ah est in ore-ay."

And here's Jon Arbuckle*, to show us the phrase in action:

So did she do that move into his junk?

@ Zibbs: The date is tonight, so any speculation on ass/junk conjugation is merely that at this point.

@ Alaina in her incomprehensibleness: Ironically, my boss had this phrase written on his board the other day when I went into his office to ask him something about carbon-carbon bonding or food or something. I struggled through a translation, then he told me what it meant. I laughed, came back to my office, sat down for some Garfield minus Garfield goodness, and there was Jon Arbuckle shoving a banana in his ear. I then felt it was my duty to share this with the world.

LMAO... awesome. This is becoming quite an educational blog of here!

I really need to study this so I can be ready to say it at any time... You know, to sound profound and shit.

Possibly the only situation in which I would find a Garfield comic amusing. Well done!

The banana in the ear joke is my Dad's favorite thing on earth.

I like this little latin lesson thing. It's never too late to learn. The phonetic pronunciation is perfect for those of us whose only fluency in latin is via "pig latin". It should be a Friday tradition.
PS-the comic is great too! Haha-latin for dummies

And about your comment on Gwen's blog- I responded. Again-don't hate me because I come from the land of CHAMPIONS!

Thanks for the Latin lesson. How did the date go?

Snort!

How do you say: "I don't want to hear you, because you have a banana shoved up your ass, and that's just wrong"?

OK, I flunk Spanish, managed to learn only one non-dirty phrase in French and almost started WWIII with my family-Prussian-dialect German. So what the hell does that Latin phrase mean? I couldn't get the translation thing to work.

Oh I noticed in your comment to Alaina that your boss had this phrase written on his board. Quick story about phrases on doors and bosses: Apparently the Boss Man will get mighty peeved if you write "Arbeit Macht Frei" over the door to your cubicle. Not that my former co-workers and I did anything like that...... (of course it took him two months to figure out what it meant and where we had gotten it.)

DG: I'll consult the Mrs. about this. She's the Latin expert.

Lisa: It translates as "I cannot hear you. I have a banana stuck in my ear."
